Malusi Gigaba tells Zondo commission that Norma Mngoma involved in plot to kill him

Johannesburg – – Former minister of finance Malusi Gigaba believes there is a plot to kill him, with his estranged wife Norma Mngoma, allegedly involved in the conspiracy.

This was revealed at the commission of inquiry into State capture chaired by judge Raymond Zondo.

Earlier on Friday, Gigaba said Crime Intelligence, State Security and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) were also involved in the plot.

Gigaba said this in relation to the case which led to the Hawks arresting his wife, Mngoma.
Her electronic devices were confiscated during the arrest.

At the time of the arrest, Gigaba had lodged a complaint with the Hawks about threats to his life, with Mngoma apparently investigated in connection with the complaint.

Last year, Gigaba opened a case of conspiracy to commit murder against his wife after receiving information that she allegedly hired hitmen to kill him.

Sunday World revealed at the time, that Gigaba approached the police in Brooklyn, Pretoria with the sensational allegations in June last year and told them that he was informed by concerned people that his wife allegedly hired assassins to kill him.

The police referred the matter to the Hawks, who assembled a team of investigators to probe the allegations.

The explosive details were revealed by high-ranking police officials close to the investigations team that was assembled by the Hawks to investigate the matter.

“Crime Intelligence, state security and certain people in the NPA were involved in a plot of sorts, a political plot of sorts, which involved me. When Ms Mngoma was arrested, it interfered with their asset that is Ms Mngoma,” Gigaba told the Zondo commission on Friday.

On allegations that the former minister owned 200 designer suits and that he carried cash in a sports bag, Gigaba stated that this was simply not true.

He said that the allegations about him taking out cash to buy suits at a Fabiani store in Sandton were not true, because after 2013 he was wearing tailored suits.

Gigaba went on to tell the commission that he bought suits from the store in the early parts of the 2000s and was a model for the shop, with his face at their store in Cape Town.
