Only family to bury ANC leader amid Covid-19

Only the immediate family of the late ANC leader, Ignatius Jacobs, will be allowed at his funeral.

This is due to the Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

Tributes poured in for Jacobs, the former general manager of the ANC, at the ruling party’s headquarters, Luthuli House, in Johannesburg.

Jacobs served in the Gauteng government as MEC in the portfolios of education, social development and transport, among others.

A memorial service for the deceased leader will be held after the lockdown.

His family have requested that visits to his house be restricted as per the regulations.

“His revolutionary path is worthy of emulation by young cadres and future generations. The people of our country will treasure his memory as one of our most distinguished sons who consciously chose to fight a cruel and inhumane system at a time when it was extremely dangerous to do so,” said the ANC in a statement.

“Even up to his last day, he placed his life and service in the hands of the ANC and the people of his country,” read the statement.
