Suspects linked to Moses Maluleke’s murder due in court

Three suspects are expected to appear at the Malamulele magistrate’s court on Monday in connection with the murder of Collins Chabane municipality mayor Moses Maluleke.

The men were arrested at the weekend after Maluleke, 56, and his teenage son were accosted in their home at Xikundu village in Limpopo on July 21. His 18-year-old son, who sustained injuries during the home invasion, was rushed to the hospital.

The suspects, who allegedly demanded money before opening fire on the mayor and his son, face charges of murder and attempted murder.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the suspects, aged between 30 and 50, were nabbed during intensive police investigations that got under way immediately after the fatal shooting.

“The team succeeded in apprehending the suspects within a week,” said Mojapelo.

Maluleke’s funeral service will be held at the Saselemani Stadium in Malamulele on Tuesday.
