Thando gives 5-FM a hot klap

Former 5FM radio presenter and actress Thando Thabethe spilled the tea on her sudden exit from the radio station last month.

In a detailed thread of how she was replaced and her show canned by the newly appointed station and programme managers, Thabethe revealed all.

She said that on Friday February 28, she had a meeting with the programme manager Siyanda Fikelephi, who let her know that the show was renewed, as per annual negotiations.

“I then tried to negotiate a raise of R200 an hour. At this point he had agreed for me to take 2 weeks leave to shoot Housekeepers (a soap is on DsTV),” she wrote.

“Fast forward the following Monday I hear that the Thabooty drive will be no longer as it doesn’t fit into the 2/5 year plan of the SABC. This info I hear from colleagues or people on my show,” she said.

“At this point I hear that the replacement of the show had already been notified and so had my current team mates. Note: I was the last to find out that my very own show no longer existed,” she explained.

The Mzansi Magic actress said that she had a meeting with the programme manager on Tuesday and told her that her show did not exist anymore and that she had demanded a 20% increase and six weeks leave.

Thabethe added that she was offered a slot on Sundays at 4-7am.

“I have ploughed many hours into the work that I do, and found this an insult after 11 years on radio,” she tweeted.

She confirmed to Sunday World that she was the one who took to twitter last night and that her account was not hacked.

She declined to answer any further questions on the matter.
