PSL GM Ace Ngcobo promises safe Nedbank Cup final

Premier Soccer League (PSL) general manager Andile ‘Ace’ Ngcobo will bolster security visibility and has assured travelling supporters of a safe Nedbank Cup on Saturday.

Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United lock horns in a mouthwatering encounter at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

In partnership with the Gauteng government, Ngcobo said the stadium will have high police and private security presence, as they will be fighting against crime that is likely to take place on the day.

“When we announced Loftus as the venue [of the final], one of the things that came up was the issue of a syndicate that operates in and around the stadium on match-day,” Ngcobo said during the Nedbank Cup press conference at the Nedbank headquarters in Sandton on Thursday.

“A syndicate that specialises in removing motor vehicle components, especially VW [Volkswagen] cars.

“With this beautiful partnership that we have with the Gauteng government, I can assure members of the public that there will be literally thousands of guards that will be patrolling the entire area.

“Because we know our people love parking on the side of the streets without having to go to the formal parking areas. I am sure you’ve seen the government has a new cohort of crime prevention wardens.

“We can’t divulge on the exact numbers in terms of security protocol, but I can assure you that there will not be less than 2000 deployments in Pretoria on the day, together with our own PSL private security.”

The renowned former Fifa referee returned to his old position in February this year.
