Downs, Bucs rivalry becoming headline fixture in PSL calendar

Even though the game between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates does not attract a crowd as large as 90 000, their rivalry is slowly but surely reaching the level of the Soweto Derby, as their fixture has arguably become the headline encounter in the PSL calendar in recent years.

Now known as the “rivalry of stars”, as Pirates and Sundowns are the only two teams that have gone all the way to conquer Africa in the CAF Champions League, the game between the two sides is hardly short of goals and excitement.

Yesterday, the world-class and jaw-dropping goal by Bucs youngster Camren Dansin from the edge of the box probably still has staunch diski fans talking in the corners of eKasi, churches and inside taxis this morning.

The 20-year-old scored a goal-of-the-season contender when he struck the ball beautifully from the D-line on a half-volley, leaving Bafana Bafana international Ronwen Williams with no chance but to stare and admire the sheer brilliance of the youngster to cancel out
Peter Shalulile’s opening goal for the Brazilians.

The two sides had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
