Big Zulu apologises for calling Dumi a ‘boy’ at soccer tournament

Rapper Big Zulu, born Siyabonga Nene, has apologised to gospel sensation Mdumiseni “Dumi Mkokstad” Nzimande after he called him a boy (umfana).

This after an emotional encounter they had at the Jammin to Soccer tournament that took place in Tsakane at the weekend.

The tournament that was described as one to honour the late hip hop stars Riky Rick and AKA. They were both part of this tournament while they were still alive, saw musician verbally attacking each other.

Video went viral on social media

A video of Big Zulu calling Nzimande a boy during the games went viral. It was during a dispute in which Gqom Dj Tira was accused of using non-musicians on his team to cheat in the games.

The video set social media on fire. As a result, Nzimande protested after losing to Tira’s squad. He claimed that the games would not go on until DJ Tira’s team was eliminated.

“Gqom broke two rules and won unfairly. They failed to field a female player, they also did not have the player on the team list sheet. Rules say you can play one professional player at a time. Gqom team had nine players who are not eligible to play,” Nzimande explained.

Big Zulu was heard saying: “He doesn’t have Ubuntu, everything is on a standstill because of this boy. Because he doesn’t want to accept defeat.”  This was during Nzimande’s explanation in the video. He remarked: “Wena uyasidakelwa (you are full of it).”

Big Zulu has since apologised to Nzimande in a video that he posted on his social media platforms.

Apology to Nzimande, fans and sponsors

“Firstly, I will not waste time, I will be short. Please find it in your hearts to everyone who got affected by my actions and calling Dumi as a boy. I want to take this opportunity to apologise to him, his wife and his family. And to Dumi’s fans, followers who came to the stadium and everyone who watched the tournament, I am sorry,” he said.

He said a lot happened on the field and the spirits were high.

“I am sure whoever has played football knows that these kind of things happen.”

Nzimande shared that after everything, they have made peace.

“I want to send my most sincere message of regret to all the sponsors for all they lost due to the cancellation of the game that was meant to play on SABC 1,” he added.
