Bill Cosby faces new sexual assault lawsuit by 9 women

Disgraced US actor and comedian William Henry Cosby Jr., popularly known as Bill Cosby, has been slapped with a new lawsuit alleging sexual abuse by nine more women.

The lawsuit against Cosby was filed in the US District Court of Nevada. The nine women said they were allegedly given pills and spiked drinks by Cosby and then sexually assaulted while they were intoxicated with drugs. The alleged incidents are said to have taken place between 1979 to 1992.

The new nine women accusing Cosby are Lise Lotte-Lublin, Lili Bernard, Janice Baker-Kinney, Rebecca Cooper, Janice Dickinson, Linda Kirkpatrick, Angela Leslie, Pam Joy Abeyta and Heidi Thomas.

According to media reports, Cosby’s publicist Andrew Wyatt said in a statement: “From this day forward, we will not continue to allow these women to parade various accounts of an alleged allegation against Mr. Cosby anymore without vetting them in the court of public opinion and inside of the courtroom.”

In 2018 the 85-year-old was convicted of a criminal sexual assault charge in Pennsylvania and served more than two years of a three to 10-year sentence at a state prison near Philadelphia. He had found guilty of drugging and molesting ex-basketball player Andrea Constand.

Three years later he was released from prison after the conviction was overturned by the state Supreme Court.

The judges said there had been a “process violation” by the prosecution, but admitted their ruling was unusual.

Cosby is best known for starring in the 1980s TV series The Cosby Show and was once known as “America’s Dad”.

Dozens of women have publicly accused Cosby of sexual assault, but he was only tried criminally for the incident against Constand. His conviction in 2018 was widely seen as a landmark moment in the #MeToo movement.
