BREAKING | Music executive Nota Baloyi granted R5K bail

Controversial music executive Nhlamulo Nota Baloyi has been granted R5 000 bail by the Randburg magistrate’s court.

Baloyi appeared in court on Monday afternoon after turning himself in at the Randburg police station on Friday afternoon.

Speaking to Sunday World, his attorney, Matamela Khorommbi, said his client was in good spirits to be out and that the matter had been postponed.

“The matter has been postponed to November 9 for the verification of the WhatsApp chats between Baloyi and the complainant,” said Khorommbi.

“His bail conditions are that he is to not contact the complainant in any way.”

The 34-year-old Baloyi spent the weekend behind bars after he was accused of raping actress and singer Itumeleng Bokaba.

Bokaba opened a case of rape at the Douglasdale police station against Baloyi, who acknowledged previously that he was in a romantic relationship with the actress.

Keep me in your prayers

Baloyi took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday and requested his fans to remember him in their prayers as he turned himself in.

“Handing myself in at Randburg police station and hoping for the best. Please keep me in your prayers; this is officially the worst day of my life so far,” wrote Baloyi.

Relating his story, the music executive claimed that the actress tried to communicate with him in May 2017.

This was when the budding musician asked for contact information for one of the country’s popular rappers.

She purportedly stated that the star had included her in a hip-hop song released under Baloyi’s record label.

Baloyi began flirting with the TV star, and eventually house visits were arranged, and they started chatting on WhatsApp.

“You were on my mind the entire time since I got back,” the actress once stated to the record label executive in a WhatsApp conversation.

“I don’t know what to make of you. And I think you have to be clearer about what you want from me before we continue. I’m an emotional person. I don’t want to hurt myself.”

Faith in SA’s justice system

Last Sunday, Bokaba issued a statement saying: “I know everyone is panicked, but I assure you I’m OK. And I was not intending for this information to be leaked.

“I am disappointed Musa Khawula shared it publicly before the ‘Mayibabo’ saga that made headlines last week. And it’s not connected to that issue, other than the unfortunate timing and overlap of people involved.

“I am not willing to comment further or engage in public discussions. Please respect my boundaries and refrain from reaching out to me regarding this matter.

“I have faith in God and the South African justice system to address the situation appropriately, and I will continue pursuing my passion for music and focussing on the work I love.

“Thank you to those who have shown concern and support.”

Baloyi denied that he raped the actress and alleged that they had consensual sex in his house in the presence of one of his adult relatives.
