Burna Boy concert organisers suspend CEO over theft allegations

It does not rain but pours for Nigerian superstar Burna Boy.

After postponing his much-anticipated South African concert due to low ticket sales, the award-winning singer had to deal with another headache.

This after a case of theft was opened against one of his promoters.

His concert, which was scheduled to take place at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, has since been postponed to December 16.

A company that is organising the concert, Ternary Media Group, opened a case of theft against its CEO Sedote Nwachukwu at the Sandton police station on Monday.

It is accusing Nwachukwu of theft of money from the company amounting to millions.

In a statement released on Monday, the media company mentioned charges related to misconduct by the CEO as reasons for his sacking.

“In light of the allegations of misconduct, Ternary Media Group has relieved Mr Nwachukwu of his CEO responsibility until further notice,” reads the statement.

“The company remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and accountability.”

It added that it will be cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

“The company regrets any inconvenience caused to fans and stakeholders and is exploring options to reschedule the Burna Boy concert to a later stage.”

On Thursday, online ticket sales website Pro Tickets changed the status of Burna Boy’s concert from postponed to cancelled following the allegations.

On Wednesday award-winning publicity company Khanya PR cut ties with four-time BET award winner.

In a statement released hours after news broke that Burna Boy’s show had been postponed, Khanya PR said it would be removing itself from being his official publicists for the concert.

“We hereby wish to announce that Khanya PR and Media Solutions has, after much consideration, resolved to resign the account for the Burna Boy concert,” it said.
