David Rees describes surgery as one hardest fight he ever fought

Beloved 7de Laan actor David Rees is reportedly recovering at home after a health scare that landed him in the intensive care unit a few weeks ago.

The actor, who plays Chris Welman on the SABC2 soapie, suffered a heart attack that resulted in a hefty double bypass surgery.

Fans reached out to contribute after a BackaBuddy plea was launched.


Recently, his family shared that a pulmonologist was treating him for a lung infection.

According to an update shared on his social media pages, the actor said he was happy to be home and his family is grateful for the love and support from fans.

“David has been released from the hospital. He is incredibly happy to be home. The fresh country air and comfortable surroundings will bode well for his recovery.

“David’s fight is far from over. He is now at home, recuperating, but there are still weeks of recovery and medical procedures ahead.

“Unfortunately, David does not have medical aid, making the journey even more daunting.”

In a statement, Rees described his recent double bypass open-heart surgery at Milpark Hospital as the hardest battle he has ever fought.


He said: “Thank you to the medical professionals, publicity manager, family, fans, and everyone who has offered support during the hardest fight I’ve ever fought.”

“To every single person who wished me well, everyone pledged support in some or another way. The doctors and staff at Milpark Hospital. You saved my life. I send my deepest gratitude out there to you all. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

He went on to acknowledge the efforts of his publicity manager Corlia Strauss.

“To Corlia, thanks for your dedication, handling all the messages and getting them to the family, as well as handling all communication between my family, fans, colleagues, and the press,” Rees said.

Urges the statement: “We believe in the strength of community, unity, and collective support. Let’s rally behind David and showcase our love and support. With unity, we can truly bring about miracles and touch lives.”

The family also extended is appreciation and pleaded for privacy.

“We appreciate your patience, love, and understanding during this time. Open your hearts, spread the word, and let’s create a wave of love that ensures David and his family know they aren’t alone.

“In these times, the family also appeals for respect toward their wishes and privacy. Thank you for your continued love and support.”
