‘Idols SA’ contestant Zee: My journey has been a rollercoaster

Idols SA evicted contestant, Zee Arnolds, is proud of herself for making it to the top five in the competition. Being an introvert has made her journey on the show a rollercoaster, but she managed to come out of her comfort zone.

In grade two, she joined the choir after a teacher spotted her talent. This is where she learnt more about music and different genres.

The 18-year-old entered Idols after she matriculated in 2021. Her mother’s conditions were that she finish school first.

“Performing every Sunday in front of many people has been my biggest highlight. I never thought I would do something like this before, Idols has challenged me a lot and it’s funny how at times I would forget about the audience,” she said.

One of the biggest highlights for Zee was her theatre week performance, where she performed a Lady Gaga song, as well as when she performed with Joyous Celebration.

“When it comes to song choices, I never pick a song because I love it or have it on my playlist. I rather pick a song that I will be able to sing. I always try to pick a song that I will be comfortable singing.”

Zee shared that there have been moments where she was harsh on herself and thought she could not do it.

“The first time I got criticism from the judges I think has to be one of my lowest moments in the show, because I didn’t know how to handle it. I never thought I would be in that situation in my life, especially in front of so many people that were watching me.”

The Cape Town-born contestant said she is really proud of herself and what she has achieved.

“Being a musician has always been my dream and in God’s name, I want to become a well-known musician, and I know it’s not going to be an easy journey to embark on,” she said.
