Afro-pop group Mina Nawe lead singer “Mazet” died of cardiovascular disease.
This was revealed to Sunday World by Mina Nawe spokesman Nkosiphambili Molapisi on Thursday. Molapisi said Mazet was at her Daveyton home when she started complaining of severe headaches.
She was rushed to hospital on April 5.
While in hospital, (not disclosed) Mazet, real name Zanele Maseko, suffered a mild stroke and inflamed brain tissue before she died last Sunday.
“Upon arrival at the hospital she had lost functionality of some of her limbs, her hand mainly. The family was later informed that she had suffered a mild stroke and that her brain tissues were inflamed,” said Molapisi.
“We humbly ask for your support during this difficult time as we hold hands with Mazet’s family, friends and colleagues.”
Mazet’s mother, Modiegi Masemola, said she was aggrieved by her daughter’s death as she had hoped that she would recover from the illness.
“We had hoped she would fully recover as we knew she was strong and under the best care,” said Masemola.
“During the week, she showed signs of getting better and we believed we would soon have her home. Sunday morning, April 12, we received a call from the hospital that she has passed on.”
She said the burial took place yesterday at a venue withheld by the family. A special live-stream tribute show on social media was held by the remaining Mina Nawe band members after the funeral.
