Veteran actress Mmabatho Mogomotsi, who played Snowy in Yizo Yizo more than 20 years ago, is making a comeback in a new Showmax Original Outlaws where she plays Moretlo.
Outlaws is a story about two families at loggerheads over continued cattle theft.
Stock theft fights between communities in Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal are a reality for many people who live in those areas.
Moretlo is a Basotho queenpin of the largest cattle-raiding syndicate and the bane of the Zulu cattle-farming Biyela clan across the border in KwaZulu-Natal.
She opened up about her role, one she has been yearning for.
“Moretlo is your ordinary woman in the village but she’s got a twist about her. She will fight for her family by all means necessary,” said Mogomotsi.
“She would just put up a different personality and do what she needs to do at the time to survive.
“She would use her gun without thinking twice. She is not your ordinary damsel at war, she changes into something very different.”
Mogomotsi said she relates to the character because she is a mom who is firm with her children.
“That’s more like me, I’m not my children’s regular friend, I am their mom first. But they can come to me for anything,” she said.
“So, that’s the similarity between me and Moretlo.”
Mogomotsi has also starred in other TV shows including Muvhango, Rhythm City, The Wild, Jacob’s Cross, and The River.
Outlaws will premiere on September 6.
