Nsikelelo Mthiyane has always aspired to be an actress since the age of 14, but unfortunately, life took its own turn.
Mthiyane, aged 21, from Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal, will be replacing Luyanda Zwane on Mzansi Wethu’s Sibongile & The Dlamini’s.
Speaking to Sunday World this week, she said her love for acting started at a tender age.
When she was in grade 10, she went to auditions for a local production and bagged the role. However, due to financial constraints, the production had to stop shooting.
Agency for extras
“When I was in matriculation, I asked someone to apply for me for tertiary, but I could not pursue my studies because my application was incomplete.
“That was when I decided to enrol for a Bachelor of Education degree,” said Mthiyane.
She had intended to switch courses in her second year and pursue acting, but she had been turned down. Instead, she continued with her Bachelor of Education degree.
In 2023, she completed her degree and decided to apply again for a drama diploma, but was rejected again.
“This year, I enrolled for a journalism diploma because I also love sports presenting. At the beginning of the year, I joined an agency for extras and was called to be an extra on Sibongile & The Dlamini’s because Zwane had already left.”
During her wardrobe check, she was given a script to audition but had no idea it was for the role of Sibongile. She was later told she had secured the role of Sibongile.
Grateful for the breakthrough
“It’s a surreal feeling because it is a replacement role, but I am grateful for the breakthrough because I finally get to do what I have always wanted to do,” she said.
“The cast members and production have been so helpful in helping me get into character.
“I did not think it would happen this way, but I believe God has a way of placing you where you want to be in life, and I too am excited to see how people are going to react when they finally see me on screen.”
She added that she is still going to juggle studying and acting because she wants to pursue both of her dream careers.
Mthiyane will make her appearance on the show in July for the second season of the drama series.
