Actress Buhle Samuels, who plays the role of Matshidiso on Muvhango, made a comeback on SABC2’s daily soap opera this year.
Speaking to Sunday World this week, Samuels said that hearing that the show was coming to an end was a bitter sweet moment.
“It has been such a beautiful process. It gave birth to my career. I love them so much and I am so grateful to be part of the show at the various stages,” said Samuels.
“I hope that we have entertained people at home.”
Samuels added that she is very different from her character Matshidiso because she is more quiet and sweet, whereas her character is conniving and manipulative.
Something big is coming
“I am a more chilled girl and Matshidiso teaches me some things that you can use in a positive way, but we are definitely very different.
“This year something is coming, something very big is coming from me in the next three months.
“Maybe people will be shocked but my followers, who are on Instagram, won’t be as surprised.”
The interview took place after news broke that the show was coming to a sudden end on Tuesday evening after airing for 25 seasons since 1997.
This comes after reports that the Tshivenda soapie ran out of episodes.
According to reports, the production has completely shut down, with no new contracts or contract extensions for further episodes.
Down memory lane
Last Wednesday, SABC2 announced that it would take Muvhango viewers down memory lane with the broadcast of the retro episodes of the iconic soapie.
The soapie released a statement on the current developments, but the statement did not point to the show coming to an end.
“As part of celebrating 30 years of democracy, SABC2 will broadcast Muvhango starting from season 1,” according to the statement.
“[This] will provide an opportunity to showcase the historical moments of this iconic production to audiences who may not have seen the show from the beginning.”
