Nota Baloyi to appear in court to face charge of rape

Controversial music executive Nhlamulo Nota Baloyi is set to appear in court tomorrow on a charge of rape. He turned himself in at the Randburg police station on Friday.

Baloyi, 34, who was due to spend the weekend behind bars, is accused of raping actress and singer Itumeleng Bokaba.

Bokaba opened a case of rape at the Douglasdale police station against Baloyi.

Baloyi acknowledged that he was in a romantic relationship with the actress.

Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that Baloyi turned himself in to the police at the Randburg police station.

“He is charged with rape and is expected to appear before the Randburg magistrate’s court on Monday, October 7, 2024,” said Masondo.

Baloyi took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday and requested his fans to remember him in their prayers as he turned himself in.

“Handing myself in at Randburg police station and hoping for the best. Please keep me in your prayers; this is officially the worst day of my life so far,” wrote Baloyi.

Relating his story, the music executive claimed that the actress tried to communicate with him in May 2017. This was when the budding musician asked for contact information for one of the country’s popular rappers.

She purportedly stated that the star had included her in a hip hop song released under Baloyi’s record label.

Baloyi began flirting with the TV star, and eventually house visits were arranged and they started chatting on WhatsApp.

“You were on my mind the entire time since I got back,” the actress once stated to the record label executive in a WhatsApp conversation.

“I don’t know what to make of you. And I think you have to be clearer about what you want from me before we continue. I’m an emotional person. I don’t want to hurt myself.”

Last Sunday, Bokaba issued a statement saying: “I know everyone is panicked but I assure you I’m OK. And I was not intending for this information to be leaked.

“I am disappointed Musa Khawula shared it publicly before the ‘Mayibabo’ saga that made headlines last week. And it’s not connected to that

issue, other than the unfortunate timing and overlap of people involved.

“I am not willing to comment further or engage in public discussions. Please respect my boundaries and refrain from reaching out to me regarding this matter.

“I have faith in God and the South African justice system to address the situation appropriately. And I will continue pursuing my passion for music and focusing on the work I love.

“Thank you to those who have shown concern and support,” she wrote.

Baloyi denied that he raped the actress and alleged that they had consensual sex in his house in the presence of one of his adult relatives.
