NPA ropes in Khumalo’s mom in Jub Jub rape trial

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has roped in three witnesses to testify in several counts of rape, assault and attempted murder against Uyajola 9/9 presenter Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye when the trial resumes in November.

Singer Kelly Khumalo’s mother has been brought in by the state as an indirect witness in the rape, assault and attempted murder case the songbird has opened against the rapper.

The singer’s mother Sikhonzile Khumalo has deposed to an affidavit in which she is corroborating the artist’s version of some of the alleged events.

Sikhonzile said the songstress arrived at her home in Spruitview with her three month-old son and asked to stay with her.

“My daughter Kelly told me that Jub Jub forced himself by raping her and he used a pillow to suffocate her when he was raping her. It shocked and scared me. How can he do that when he says he loves Kelly,” she stated.

The Empini hit maker’s mother alleged she had witnessed several incidents in which Maarohanye physically abused her daughter.

This, she said, includes the day Maarohanye assaulted all of them in her house when she tried to intervene when he assaulted her daughter.

“We never did nothing, he just left us and that was the last time we had to deal with Jub Jub Molemo’s abuses(sic). I don’t remember everything as it’s a long time. I only mentioned those incidents where I know they hurt me inside my soul,” reads her affidavit.

The state has also secured Masechaba Khumalo’s friend, Joy Tsotetsi, as a witness.

She said Masechaba, whom she met last year, told her that what she saw on social media that Maarohanye had raped her when they were both at Mondeor High, was true.

She told her that back then when she was dating Maarohanye, she did not lose her virginity through consensual sex, but when he raped her.

“Masechaba further said she kept the abuse to herself until she tweeted about the incident,” she said in the affidavit.

Tsotetsi said she was not only shocked and angry but also hurt to hear of the alleged rape incident.

“Also to think that I was very close to her at the time when she was dating Molemo,” reads her affidavit.

The NPA has also brought as a witness, Amanda du-Pont’s younger sister, who alleged in her affidavit that she saw Maarohanye abuse the former Muvhango actress after her then seven-year-old sibling did not finish the food he had dished.

She said she and her younger sister visited Maarohanye and du-Pont at the couple’s Bassonia house several years ago.

“So during the dinner he dished for us. He dished too much food for my younger sister and she could not finish the food,” reads her affidavit.

She said Maarohanye was incensed with her younger sister for failing to finish her food and shouted and chased them out.

She said she and her younger sister walked to the park at the behest of du-Pont and returned to the house after a short while.

“The mood was off, Amanda was then in gowns, her face was swollen, like she was crying a lot.

“I did not ask what happened. We just packed and left,” reads her affidavit.

“Before his incident when he went to jail, Amanda told me he bumped into her in the garage.

“She said he had admitted every wrong he had done to her, about raping her and abusing her, and he was apologising on every wrong thing he did to her (sic),” reads the affidavit.
