DJ Sumbody’s brother Koketso Sefoka is living in fear after receiving threats from the slain artist’s business partner Kagiso Setsetse.
Setsetse has also kicked Koketso and his mother out of the businessman’s trendy nightclub Ayepyep in Pretoria and told her not to set her little dirty feet in his business. Setsetse aho since got hitched, secretly left the country and relocated with his entire family to the United Arab Emirates.
He also ironically claimed that he feels unsafe and has been getting threats.
But Koketso this week told this newspaper that Setsetse started threatening him a few weeks after DJ Sumbody’s funeral, saying he feels Setsetse’s character is questionable.
This after he asked Setsetse to give his mother, who was appointed the executrix of the estate, all information regarding the ownership of Ayepyep. Koketso said he feels betrayed by Setsetse, whom he has known for many years.
“Setsetse is not what he portrays himself to be, and he’s got his reasons for leaving South Africa. I don’t know what’s going on in the business. I have faced a barrage of intimidation and harassment from him. His lawyers sent me letters telling me to stay away from the business, and I did that,” he said.
He said this after Setsetse told him that he was too young and should stop poking his nose into businesses that had nothing to do with him.
Koketso said all they wanted to know was whether Setsetse wanted to buy the family out of the business, but he refused, saying that after his brother’s death, he was the only owner.
Koketso declined to comment when asked whether Sumbody and Setsetse were on good terms before his passing.
He said shortly after Sumbody’s death he asked Setsetse to work with them but he refused.
“I suggested that he works with my sister because she is also in the same industry, but he said she was too young. I then proposed that my mother work with him and he said she was too old and I was too emotional to work with him.
“You can clearly see that he is someone who has no interest in engaging with the family and hence he is victimising us.”
The fallout between the two, he said, began shortly after he asked Setsetse about the ownership of the popular establishment, which has a branch in Cape Town.
Earlier this week, a deep throat with knowledge of the dispute said Setsetse allegedly owns 100 % of the business, since the shareholder agreement between him and the late entertainer makes it clear that should one of the partners die, the remaining partner gets it all.
However, Setsetse rubbished the claim and said he owned 50% of the popular nightclub.
“We have a shareholders agreement which dictates the succession and that my late partner’s shares are with the estate and the executor is a family member,’ said Setsetse.
Koketso said his brother had a vision of taking the Ayepyep franchise internationally and travelled to Dubai in October last year to source the market and a venue.
With regards to the investigation, Koketso said the police kept them updated, and last touched base earlier this month.
