Marshalltown fire inquiry venue fails
Last week, the judicial commission of inquiry established to investigate the Marshalltown fire that killed 77 people in August was postponed indefinitely after it was revealed the venue for the commission was not compliant with the by-laws of the City of Johannesburg.
The Marshalltown building that caught fire was a hijacked building, which was also not compliant with the city’s by-laws. Now it turns out that the venue of the commission meant to investigate the cause of the fire is also not compliant. How ironic! Laughable!
With this indefinite postponement and uncertainty as to when the commission will resume its work, the commission is showing flames to the public and families of the victims.
