Nothing beats a good dose of spin and delusion when it comes to politics

ANC chairperson Gwede Mantashe credits his propaganda training for helping him shape his political opinions. After all, nothing beats a good dose of spin and delusion when it comes to politics.

So, our mineral resources and energy minister boasts that his initiation into politics was under the mentorship of a Mosotho propagandist.

Apparently, he taught him how to think critically, analyse political situations and make decisions.

It’s a pity that the Tiger has kept the name of his secret weapon a closely guarded secret because his successor as ANC secretary general, Ace Magashule, clearly needs a sharp propagandist.

Social media was this week awash with breaking news that Magashule’s new African Transformation Congress (ACT) has, in just 2 months, reached the milestone of 1,1 million party members.

That is so massive, it cannot be true. It would make ACT the biggest, if not the second or third biggest, political party in the country.

Our verdict is that Ace urgently needs a “Tiger” by his side.

At least to help him fill up FNB Stadium before claiming astronomical numbers. Or maybe he should have stuck with his reliable sidekick, Carl Niehaus.

Ultimately, Ace’s decision to stay loyal to his mysterious mentor may have cost him dearly.
