Why is Mashatile forcing himself to be loved

The deputy president of the country and the ANC, Paul Mashatile, continues to force himself on people who clearly don’t want him.

Shwa was embarrassed on the don of Alex Mafia’s behalf this week during the swearing-in ceremony of the national executive in Cape Town. After taking his oath, Minister of Mineral Affairs Gwede Mantashe, like many others before him, went for a photo opp at the top table where Number 1 and Number 2 were seated.

The Tiger of Cala shook President Cyril Ramaphosa’s hand and completely ignored Mashatile as if he did not exist.

CR himself almost forgot to acknowledge Mashatile when he announced the deputy ministers for the swearing-in, and mentioned him last in his greetings, almost as an after-thought.

Mashatile refuses to smell the coffee that the dominant ANC faction just doesn’t want him, something he should have known in December 2022 already when they fielded Oscar Mabuyane for deputy president and Mashatile emerged victorious by a very slim margin.

  1. He was the original bag man for the presidency, sourcing funds from wherever to shore up a cash strapped ANC. Problem was funds were rarely properly declared or banked with a clear audit trail. He has therefore not won the right to any post of meaning in the government, nor does he have the requisite experience. Bag man he will remain.
