Johannesburg – After a successful run at the Joburg Theatre and due to public demand, the GBV Awareness production, ‘The Voice’ is moving to the Soweto Theatre.
The Voice will take place at The Red Room from Thursday, 27 till 30 January 2022.
The popular production was on for two consecutive days at the Joburg Theatre which resulted in both performances selling out.
The production was the brainchild of award-winning veteran actor Sello Maake Ka Ncube and Abafazi Bengoma, which brings attention to the vestiges of colonization and apartheid on the black family.
Using a multidisciplinary approach of powerful storytelling in song, spirited dance, and audiovisuals.
“The Voice” reverberates with songs of redemption and consciousness. An inspiring call for society to reflect, introspect and take responsibility for repairing our social and moral fiber.
“The Voice” is a theatre piece with a predominantly female cast, highlighting the plight of women who have survived abuse, domestic violence, discrimination, and exclusion. This is a call for men to take note and be at the center of eradicating GBV, dubbed as the shadow pandemic of South Africa by the president.
The play which is produced by the Sello Maake Ka Ncube foundation aims to create a 365-day GBV awareness campaign.
This will be done by using inventive methods invocation of self-redemption in men of all races in the country.
