Brace for season two of the much-acclaimed TV drama Shaka iLembe after the emotional end to the first part of the series on Sunday, according to MultiChoice.
The first season of the drama series zoomed on the upbringing of one of the greatest kings of the AmaZulu nation, narrating the hardships he faced after being chased away from his ancestral home with his mother Queen Nandi.
As it wrapped up, Shaka returned home ready to take over the throne from his father Senzangakhona. This he believed to be his birth right.
MultiChoice has confirmed that season two will shine the light more on Shaka’s journey as a king, telling the story of his bravery and kingship.
Nomsa Philiso, MultiChoice CEO for general entertainment, said the support has been overwhelming.
“MultiChoice is really committed to telling the Shaka iLembe story, and this season two announcement confirms our intentions to honour the iconic figure of King Shaka with a continuation of his story,” said Philiso.
However, schedules for season two have not been released but the channel said it will be a remake, introducing more faces to the drama series.
The cast will continue to be led by globally recognised star Nomzamo Mbatha.
“The fact that viewers across South Africa, and indeed the continent have been so passionately supportive of the show, tuning in to watch weekly, sharing their commentary online and really engaging with this layered story of the Nguni kingdoms, has been fantastic. We are looking forward to bringing season two to life,” she said.
Season two is expected to bring more fiction to maintain entertainment, but the channel guarantees that the highlight will still be on the main character, King Shaka.
