Stopnonsons continues to make jokes after court appearance

It appears that jokes are the order of the day for comedian Stopnonsons, who took to his Instagram to share jokes first thing after his release from spending three nights in police custody for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Stopnonsons, born Tumi Matila, was slapped with two protection orders on Friday and warned to stay away from his girlfriend, Thando Ngemane, and her friend Tsholofelo Kgosimotho.

Matila appeared at the Randburg magistrate’s court, where he was granted R2000 bail. The matter was postponed to September 13.

Following his release, the comedian and television presenter did not address the gender-based-violence charges he is facing, but took to his Instagram page to share a video of his comedy skits.

Speaking to Sunday World on Saturday, his manager Itumeleng Matolo said the comedian had not had any meetings with them yet, but he was in good spirits ahead of his comedy shows this weekend.

“He will be attending his shows today. It is just that we have not had time to sit down with him as yet to explain to us what happened. Last time I saw him was on Sunday when she was with her,” he said.

Matila was arrested at the Honeydew police station on Tuesday and charged with assault and two charges of pointing a firearm at her and a friend and threatening to kill them.
Matila appeared in court for the first time on Thursday and again on Friday.

The court heard that the comedian had allegedly threatened to kill the women previously. He was given a stern warning to stay away from the pair and not make contact with them.

Matila, who is also known by his stage name Jumaimai, is a sought-after comedian and television presenter on SABC show Ikasi Lam, which airs every Saturday night.

His lawyer argued that if his bail application was dragged for long, he risked losing out on gigs which he was booked for this weekend.
