Amapiano vocalist Khanyisa Jaceni has been named the EQUAL Africa ambassador for Spotify.
She joins other South African ambassadors including as Tyla, Sio, and Elaine, who have previously headlined the programme.
EQUAL Africa focuses on women who are breaking barriers and making massive moves in the music industry.
Jaceni said she ventured into the music space when she was part of the top five finalists for the Vodacom NXT LVL music competition in 2017. Her music has taken her on a journey of spreading love and positive energy.
Dedication, determination, and unwavering courage have been pivotal in breaking barriers in the music industry.
She grew up listening to artists such as Freshly Ground, Barry White, and Michael Jackson, who have had a profound influence on her musical taste.
Jaceni described her family as a musical family, which is why her childhood was filled with singing sessions.
“Facing the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated industry demanded years of determination. From fear to intimidation, I’ve become courageous in stepping out of my comfort zone,” she said.
“His [God] strength drives me, turning barriers into opportunities. I am living proof of His grace, flourishing as I carve a new trail for women.”
Jaceni’s latest EP, Half Way, was released after the success of Journeys and Soft, which showcase her talent and growth as an artist.
Phiona Okumu, Spotify head of music for sub-Saharan Africa, said: “Her musical versatility, empowering message, and her sheer talent truly embody the essence of the Spotify EQUAL programme.
“We are excited to amplify her voice and celebrate her as an exceptional artist.”
