Banyana legend Portia Modise pleads for help after hijacking

Former Banyana Banyana captain Portia Modise lost her blue Volkswagen Polo Golf 5 during a terrifying hijacking incident on Saturday.

When Modise arrived home, several criminals confronted her and pointed guns at her, according to her account of the incident.

The former forward posted on her X account, explaining her current predicament and requesting help in locating the vehicle.

“It is a blue Polo Golf 5; the registration number is KX25GPGP, and if anyone spots it anywhere, please try and call or reach out to me,” she said.

Modise said she is lucky that her life was not taken, even though she still finds it hard to accept what happened to her.

Lucky to be alive

“I am really not okay, but I am grateful for life that after they pointed firearms at me, [they hijacked] and took my car.

“They still did not harm me. I am just alerting the public that if they see the car, it is mine and I am asking the public to help.”

Her near-fatal experience follows the vicious murder of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs and the theft of his opulent red VW Golf 8 GTI recently.

Two armed men allegedly shot and killed Fleurs during a hijacking on April 3.

The incident happened at the Shell petrol station at Constantia service centre in Florida, Roodepoort, Johannesburg.

Car hijacking syndicate

According to the police, the six suspects are believed to be part of a syndicate that is responsible for car hijackings across Gauteng.

The search for more suspects continues.

During court proceedings on Thursday, magistrate Delise Smith said it would not be in the interest of justice to grant the suspects bail.

This was because they supplied false information to the court during their bail applications. The suspects are in jail, waiting for their next court appearance.
