Idols SA: Noxolo Mthethwa leaves problems backstage

Idols SA contestant Noxolo Mthethwa’s parents’ separation has not distracted her from reaching out for her dreams.

The KwaZulu-Natal-born Noxolo, who shared the stage with Afro-pop star Kelly Khumalo during Sunday’s live top 12 performance show, is fighting for a spot in the top 10 of season 18 of the competition.

And her family members are pulling all the stops to make sure that her dream comes true. They took to the streets of eNanda township to encourage the residents to vote for her.

Her mother, Ntombilezi Mthethwa, told Sunday World that seeing her daughter in the top 12 of the competition was a huge accomplishment.

“This is not an easy competition for her because all those eleven contestants are just as talented,” shared Ntombilezi.

“But what makes it harder for her is that I’m separated from her father. She and her siblings have already moved out of my marital home, back to my parents’ house. This took a toll on her because we [the parents] have always been around.

“Her father actually taught her how to sing. The separation hasn’t been easy for her, but she seems to be coping,” said the proud mother.

“My prayer is for her to win this competition. And if she does, it’ll be for all of us. She’s mentioned that if she wins, she’ll buy a house for me. That way we can have our own home.

“Her victory will also be for the entire community of eNanda. Our township is known as the heart of crime. My daughter wants to show the world that this township is also rich in the performing arts. Her win might also encourage other youngsters to start taking their talents seriously.”

According to Ntombilezi, it is the 25-year-old’s first attempt in the Idols SA competition.

“It’s the first time she went on Idols SA competition and she’s outdone herself. I knew she could sing, but I didn’t want to raise my expectations. Prior to this, she released two songs with Khaya Mthethwa and Babo Ngcobo.

“She has also backed other big gospel artists including Phindi P. For me, this is all God’s timing and I feel she’s already won.”
