Thando’s work gets recognition it deserves on continent

Media personality Thando Thabethe has been named among the 100 most influential youth in Africa for 2019.

In their fourth year, the prestigious Africa Youth Awards continue to celebrate and elevate outstanding young Africans for their continued contribution in the development of the continent.

The young achievers are selected from 32 African countries.

The former Generations: The Legacy actor, known as the free-spirited Nolwazi, was listed among seven other contestants under the media category for the awards.

She said she was excited to be part of a select group that has been recognised for elevating the state of the continent.

“Being part of the top 100 means that I’ve done enough work for many people to respect that and value my opinion and word. It says my work is being recognised and that makes me feel happy.

“I’d like all the young girls in SA to see this and be inspired and know that no matter what the hardships we’re facing as women, we can conquer through them and achieve our wildest dreams,” said Thabethe.

The actor said she would continue making positive changes the best way she could to secure the success of Africa. BET award winner Sho Madjozi was recognised for her contribution in the music industry while Olympic champion Caster Semenya was honoured for her excellence in athletics.

Other South Africans who were named alongside influential youth on the continent include media personality Maps Maponyane, legal director Carmel Samimi, conference moderator Nozipho Mbanjwa, award-winning researcher Shakira Choonara , social entrepreneur Busi Mkhumbuzi Pooe, rugby player Elton Jantjies, Ferarri marketing director Chanelle Zackey and farmer Mbali Nwoko.
