‘The Wife’ treat awaits Mzansi Magic viewers in September

Thousands of fans and bookworms of Dudu Busani-Dube’s Hlomu series are in for a treat after Showmax announced on Monday that The Wife is making its way to Mzansi Magic in September.

“Having seen its impressive and record-breaking performance on Showmax, we have decided to bring The Wife to our DStv Compact subscribers so that they can get in on the action,” said Shirley Adonisi, director of local entertainment channels at M-Net.

“We know that our viewers will fall in love with the story and its characters. It’s a show that has resonated deeply with many, and we’re glad to bring all of our subscribers into this phenomenal world.”

The Wife series is a Showmax Original telenovela that follows the lives of eight Zulu brothers, a formidable crime family, through the eyes of the women they marry.

Season one of the telenovela was inspired by the novel Hlomu the Wife, a bestseller by Busani-Dube. Rising star Mbalenhle Mavimbela plays Hlomu the wife, a journalist who falls in love with a taxi driver not realising that when you marry a man, you also marry his secrets.

Her love interest, Mqhele, is played by Bonko Khoza, who burst onto the acting scene as Jabz in the multi-award winning film Necktie Youth. Khoza has since appeared in other productions including Professionals and the Emmy-nominated Roots.

The telenovela, which will air on Mondays to Wednesdays, will premiere on Mzansi Magic on September 12 at 9.30pm.
