Fashion designer Reggie Matlaila to be buried in Limpopo

Talented fashion designer Reginald “Reggie” Matlaila will be laid to rest in Moshate village in Limpopo on Saturday, according to his family.

Matlaila, 43, passed away on Sunday reportedly from kidney failure.

He took the fashion industry by storm in the early 2000s when RjKay was launched, making him and Paledi Segapo the talk of town in celebrity circles.

The duo went separate ways two years later. Matlaila started a new label, Reggiestar, while Segapo branched out from marketing to design and founded his Palse Homme label.

Taking to social media this week, Segapo reminisced about his professional and personal relationship with Matlaila, sharing that he met Matlaila two weeks ago not knowing he was seeing him for the last time.

He credited Matlaila for unleashing his creative side and helping him realise that his passion lay in fashion design.

“The profound memories I have of you, I find them spinning around in my head non-stop, reminding me of the time I’ve known you. Your presence always illuminated the room before you could even say hello,” wrote Segapo.

Matlaila dressed many celebrities including Bontle Modiselle, Cici, Katlego Danke, Chomi and Khanyi Mbau, among others.
