I’ve always viewed entertainment as a privilege – Zanele Potelwa

Radio presenter and TV host Zanele Potelwa has secured a new gig, becoming the latest addition to S3’s Expresso Morning Show.

Potelwa promises to bring fresh energy and a vibrant presence to the popular breakfast show, enhancing the viewer experience.

She said the news is a dream come true, noting that joining Expresso Morning Show has always been something she hoped for.

Every stage is an honour

“I’ve always viewed entertainment as a privilege,” said Potelwa.

“Every stage is an honour and I hope this dream coming true for me reminds people, especially the youth, that our dreams are valid. Blessings delayed are not blessings denied.

“I’m beyond grateful to God for this amazing opportunity and to the mighty SABC for trusting me, and to Cardova [film production company] for believing in me.

“I can’t wait to wake up with South Africa on Expresso and also to have lunch with them on the airwaves during my radio show.”

David Makubyane, head of platforms video entertainment at the SABC, said: “It’s really great that Zanele is going to add her colourful energy to the Expresso team.

“It is also encouraging to see a talent groomed by the SABC being given an opportunity on one of S3’s flagship programmes. We wish her all the success together with the show.”

Sane Zondi, S3 programme manager, said Potelwa was a raw talent when she was identified by the SABC on Selimathunzi (entertainment show).

Crossover between radio and TV

“Zanele’s arrival marks an exciting addition to the Expresso family. Her longstanding association with the SABC only adds to this excitement,” said Zondi.

“It’s exciting to see Zanele cross over between SABC radio and TV channels as she adds her fresh voice to conversations on the platforms.

Lala Tuku, head of local productions at the SABC, said Potelwa’s vibrant personality and deep-rooted connection to the SABC make her a perfect fit for Expresso.

With the addition of Zanele as its newest host, Expresso has announced that it will now be broadcasting simultaneously from Cape Town and Johannesburg studios.

The dual studio format enables the show to feature a broader spectrum of guests, content and live broadcasts from different regions of the country.

It also strengthens the programme’s connection with metropolitan millennial viewers across the country.
