King MisuZulu gives Metro FM’s Tbo Touch a special gift

AmaZulu King MisuZulu kaZwelithini has given popular DJ Tbo Touch a club (isagila) as a gift for attending the annual reed dance.

Tbo Touch, whose real name is Thabo Molefe, was one of many high-profile people who attended the ceremony hosted by the king at Enyokeni Royal Palace in KwaNongoma, north of KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

It is understood that it was his first time at Enyokeni Palace. He attended the ceremony to support the Zulu nation because a number of his loyal listeners are Zulu-speaking people.

The ceremony was cut short due to the passing of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi on Saturday.

A source close to Tbo Touch said: “It has been his long wish to be part of the reed dance experience, and he was thrilled to have learned a lot about the culture and reasons why the ceremony is held,” said the source.

“He told his associates that he was honoured to be one of the king’s guests. He was smitten and overwhelmed by emotions and joy.

“The ambiance was great and both king and Touch kept on smiling and embracing each other at the palace,” said a close source to the royal family.

Sunday World understands that the former Live presenter had invited King MisuZulu in July to the Metro FM’s studios for an interview. This gesture touched the hearts of the Zulu nation.

TBo Touch said it was admirable to see the King honouring his word.

“He invited me in July when he was invited to be on our show. King MisuZulu has a very hectic schedule and for him to keep his word that he would invite me to the reed dance ceremony is a great and honourable gesture for me.”

He said the club represents the king’s trust and faith in him.

“I am really grateful that he handed the royal cane to me in person. This is an honour that I will forever embrace and cherish. This just boosted my vigour and confidence to soldier on knowing that I’ve got the blessing of the king,” said T.Bo Touch.

Touch also stated that the honour will inspire younger generations to both understand and preserve their culture and to pass the baton to the forthcoming generations to continue the legacy.
