Lesedi FM’s Skuzabell arrested for ‘beating up his wife’ over sofas

Popular Lesedi FM presenter Nkunyana Nkunyana, affectionately known as Skuzabell, was arrested for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife in a gender-based violence case that is likely to sink his radio career.

Sunday World can exclusively reveal that Nkunyana was released on R1 000 bail when he appeared in the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on Tuesday last week.

Relating the matter to Sunday World, a source close to the estranged couple said Nkunyana vacated their matrimonial home in Arkata after separating from his wife a few weeks ago.

He then went to live in Raceway, which is not far from his marital home.

The deep throat said Nkunyana drove to his nuptial home over the weekend in a bakkie, and when he arrived, he told his estranged wife that he was there to take possession of a set of expensive couches from the pad.

The mole said a fierce argument erupted when his estranged wife asked him why he wanted to remove sofas because they had two children who were using them.

“Nkunyana insisted on removing the couches, and when his estranged wife tried to stop him, he allegedly slapped her several times in the face,” said the mole.

The wife, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sustained minor injuries to her face.

The tipster said Nkunyana then instructed the guys who had accompanied him to the crib to load the couches onto the bakkie.

“They loaded them and left afterwards,” said the informant.

The source said Nkunyana’s estranged wife went to the police station and opened a case of common assault against him.

The revered radio presenter, who hosts Thuso Motaung’s famous show, Jwale Ke Nako, on Fridays, was arrested and detained at the Bloemfontein police station.

He was released on R1 000 bail after  he appeared in the Bloemfontein magistrate’s court on Tuesday.

Nkunyana, who, according to the SABC’s media release on the station’s new line of presenters, is renowned for his quick wit and infectious humour, is expected to appear in court again on May 2 to tender a plea.

The couple’s marriage, according to the source, started showing cracks when she took to social media and accused him of infidelity.

The source said Nkunyana denied ever cheating on his wife, saying that he loved her and their children too much to be involved in an extramarital affair.

Nkunyana dropped the phone as soon as  yours truly introduced himself.

NPA Free State spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane confirmed that Nkunyana was arrested and released on bail for allegedly assaulting his wife.

“A final protection order was  granted against him,” he said.
