Maskandi star Khuzani Mpungose cancels gigs due to ill-health

Maskandi star Khuzani Mpungose is not well, say the sources who are close to the musician, claiming he could not even attend events at the weekend due to poor health.

One of the events that Khuzani was scheduled to attend had been organised by Bhaka Nzama at Mid Illovo on Saturday.

Mid Illovo is a popular coastal resort on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast between Winklespruit and Karridene and 34km southwest of Durban.

Sunday World understands that the musician had already been paid a deposit for his much-anticipated performance.

Mthokozisi Zuma, the maskandi star’s right-hand man, has confirmed the news that Khuzani is battling ill-health.

“I can confirm that he was booked [for an event at the weekend],” Zuma shared.

“He’d been communicating with Bhaka’s team and he was looking forward to the event.

“Unfortunately, he fell sick and he was forced to cancel the gig. Initially, he didn’t think much of it and he continued with the preparations.

“However, on Friday he became worse and it was clear that he wouldn’t be able to get on the stage and perform.”

Eventually, said Zuma, the musician decided to cancel the performance.

“He cancelled Bhaka’s event. He is still not well but he is stable. We would like to apologise on his behalf for not attending the event.

“Unfortunately, I am not able to comment much about his sickness as it is personal.”

Khuzani pays back full deposit

Bhaka confirmed that he has since received the deposit he had paid to Khuzani prior to his performance at the weekend.

“Khuzani Mpungose was in the line-up and I paid him a full deposit,” Bhaka said.

“But on Friday he called and explained that he was sick. He also refunded me. I was disappointed but I understand. I hope he’ll join us in our next event.”

Sunday World repeatedly tried to contact Khuzani, but he failed to answer his phone.

The Umjolo Lowo hitmaker has taken ill just before his major music event, Gcwalisa Spring Picnic, which is scheduled to take place on November 4 at the King’s Park Stadium in Durban.

The activations for the music event are currently taking place across KwaZulu-Natal.
