Peter Mashata’s death reawakens DJ Sumbody family trauma

The tragic death of Pretoria-born comedian and DJ Peter Mashata Mabuse has hit the family of the late DJ Sumbody (Oupa Sefoka) hard, as they have had to relive the trauma. This is according to a source close to the family, who said the Sefoka family feels they have been failed by the justice system.

“With the death of Peter Mashata, the family found themselves reliving the trauma. DJ Sumbody’s mother did not take the tragic news well.”
No leads in DJ Sumbody death investigation
Almost a year and a half after the death of Sefoka there have been no leads with regards to those responsible for the death of their beloved family member.

“The family is surprised to see that the murder case of the late Kiernan “AKA” Forbes has been given so much attention when they have heard nothing from the South African Police Services (SAPS) regarding DJ Sumbody’s case. It seems like the provincial commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal is moving mountains with the AKA case. This makes the family feel like there is some sort of mandate,” said the source.

The source further added that the family found it difficult to understand why there has been no progress in DJ Sumbody’s case. This while other cases involving prominent people are being given attention.

No footage of the incident

“The family and the authorities were not able to retrieve any footage of the night DJ Sumbody was killed. The cameras on the road were taken out about a week before the death of the musician. [This] because they [cameras] had to go for maintenance purposes.

There is no footage of the establishment where he was playing at, except of DJ Sumbody playing. The Hawks are believed to have taken it for investigation. But still, there are no leads.”

A couple of months ago, DJ Vetty’s was shot and it was believed to be a hit. He was also a close friend to DJ Sumbody. The deep throat said they believe it is a Pretoria thing. That it is by association that certain people are being targeted.

Sunday World reached out to DJ Sumbody’s brother and family representative Koketso Sefoka. However, he declined to comment on the matter.
