‘Sports Wives’ stars reveal they were paid R15K for three months

Tsholofelo Makgalemele-Mbane and Christa Kgamphe-Jane, two Sports Wives reality stars who are married to football players for Banyana Banyana, have disclosed that they were only paid R15 000.

This was disclosed by Tsholofelo and Christa on Promise Makunyane’s Own Narrative Podcast.

In the episode, they discussed how they were contacted to participate in the Showmax reality show, which centres on women who are married to athletes.

Sports manager, masseuse, and lecturer, Christa, has said in the past that she is not accustomed to being in the spotlight.

Christa’s spouse, Refiloe Jane-Kgamphe, is usually the one who is always in the  spotlight.

Tsholofelo, who is married to Bambanani Mbane, expressed her hope that the show would enable her to demonstrate to the public the love that she and her spouse have.

The show’s producers got it all wrong

Tsholofelo expressed disappointment on the podcast regarding the show’s producers exaggeration of her parents’ feelings regarding her marriage.

“I feel like Sports Wives put my parents in a bad light. The initial story was how I got to where I am, so I am trying to take them step by step,” said Tsholofelo.

“But because they [the production] wanted drama, that’s when they shifted the focus to look like I come from a broken family.”

Tsholofelo expressed her desire to share her story and her way of life, but regrettably, she was unable to do so.

She explained that her mother never stated that she did not accept her sexuality, only that at the time, she was not prepared to accept the circumstances.

“It took my family a while to warm up to the situation,” she stated.

“When I met Bambanani, she was still not ready, and eloping made sense because I realised it was no use forcing her to go through it.”

Easy to come out

Christa found it easy to tell her family that she was seeing Refiloe because one of her aunts was aware of their relationship.

She said: “My dad knew Refiloe was a woman but did not know how to address it or put it, and he said to me: ‘You’re gay, and I said no, I’m lesbian’.

“He embraced me, but sometimes I feel like he was overcompensating because he did not raise me.

“With my mom, it was a fight because when I finally sat down with her, she said she thought we were best friends and was worried about what people would say.”

Christa and Tsholofelo also shared that Sports Wives paid cast members R15 000 for three months, which was for petrol.
