Former
Muvhango actress Tebogo Thobejane might have to put her dreams of being the next best thing in the podcast space on hold after facing financial difficulties.
This comes after a big investor allegedly pulled out of her new business venture in the eleventh hour.
Thobejane was working on producing her popular show, City Girls, after parting ways with popular podcaster MacG.
She has also been scrambling to make ends meet and has had to let her staff go, citing financial matters.
Sunday World has seen an internal email sent to the crew assisting her with the podcast, informing the staff that they will not be paid because she is having problems accessing her bank account.
Cancellation of contract
The e-mail, which was sent to staff on April 3, has the subject line: “Cancellation of contract due to payment issues.”
The correspondence reads: “It is with regret that I must address the ongoing challenges we have faced regarding payments and account access.
“Despite our efforts to resolve these issues, the situation has persisted, causing significant disruption and concern.”
Thobejane goes on to assure staff that pending payments will be processed as soon as she has money to do so.
Inability to access bank account
“Accessing our account has proven to be problematic. Despite my best attempts to rectify these issues, it is evident that current issues are untenable, and they directly impact our ability to fulfil our contractual obligations.
“Therefore, regrettably, I must inform you that we are left with no choice but to terminate our contract due to our inability to fulfil the agreed-upon terms.
“Regarding the pending payments, I am committed to finding a solution and ensuring that all outstanding obligations are settled promptly.”
Thobejane was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday. She did not reply to text messages sent to her.
The sultry actress previously told Sunday World that she had thrown herself back into the driving seat and was fully in the business of podcasting.
Angel investor
That came after the relaunch of the podcast, City Girls with Tebogo Thobejane. Through the platform, she tackles social and lifestyle-related issues, and delivers content with an element of style and grace not seen on any other podcast platform.
She said: “Podcast outgrew my capacity. Seeking a fresh, international vibe, I decided to structure it my way.
“Despite Mac G being great, we mutually concluded that starting my own channel would be the best move,” she said.
She stated that the success has been incredible, but it came with a lot of drama, sweat, and hard work.
“Also, bowing out of the country helped me secure an angel investor and close a deal overseas.
“We are still maintaining a strong friendship with Mac G, and our regular chats continue. Mac G is such a genius at what he does. I’ve learned much from him.”
