The queen of private school amapiano, Babalwa Mavuso, popularly known as Babalwa M, believes working with her partner, Kelvin Momo, has been a winning formula for them.
Speaking to Sunday World, Babalwa M said the couple is able to balance things with ease, and having similar interests makes things easy and equally fun.
“It never feels like work for us; we know how to unwind, let work be and just focus on our relationship, and when we need to work, we work,” said Babalwa M.
“Just like any other relationship, there’s good that can come with the bad, especially if you work together.
“However, what works for us as a couple in the entertainment industry may not work for the next couple in the entertainment world.”
Couple strives to stick to its lane
The songbird added that the couple always aims to stick to its lane, do what works for the lovebirds, and focus on doing just that.
“We never really want to advise others or even try, and it seems as though we are providing a formula for the advantages and disadvantages.
“We can say, though, that we love working alongside each other, and it has been a winning formula that translates into our music.”
Babalwa M’s musical journey has never been a linear one; she got into the industry by chance when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak in 2020.
With the pandemic forcing the nation to stay at home most of the time, this naturally sparked interest in anything else apart from having to focus on the pandemic.
She explained: “I was always someone who knew of their vocal abilities because I would sing in the church choir back when I was growing up.
“My partner is a well-known producer, and prior to his acclamations and now-recognised clout, we would enjoy creating music together.
“We eventually decided to share our craft with the masses, and we’ve never looked back.”
We eat and breathe music
She added that, as a musician, creating music is not something that she considers a process.
“We eat, live, and breathe music on a daily basis and we aim to always create and share what we feel is worthy of being shared with others.
“Pisces is my third music ensemble that I have created and look forward to sharing with my fans.
“I felt that with this project, my supporters could have a different feel for Babalwa M and the type of sounds I would like to lead with.
“Pisces is my star sign, and I had ideally planned to drop this project around my birthday; however, due to unforeseen circumstances, I couldn’t.”
On her latest project, Pisces, she worked alongside Sia Mzizi, Nia Pearl, Stixx, Baby S.O.N., and Kelvin Momo, whom she always enjoys collaborating with.
“Everyone who I featured is someone who understands my sound and also understands my music and how I put my sound together and make it into what it is, and I’m so grateful that they were able to contribute to this amazing project.”
She plans to drop more music again this year, and she has plans to venture into different sounds. This will be the start of seeing a different side of Babalwa M as a vocalist.
