Leseo Ramarou, a lecturer at the Northlink TVET College in Bellville, Cape Town, has a well-earned reputation as a highly dedicated and committed educator. He always goes the extra mile to ensure his students succeed academically. A product of Northlink himself, where he studied practical welding after graduating in electrical engineering at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Ramarou has been in academia since 2016. That was when Ramarou, who grew up in Kutlwanong township, in the Free State, realised that teaching was his calling despite having dabbled in different other industries before then. Nothing makes him happier than imparting knowledge to his students. In 2018, Ramarou obtained a post-graduate certificate from CUT, Welkom. His career as both lecturer and facilitator exposed him to people from different cultures and communities. “However, at the college, we are one and working towards one goal, which is to become better people in our society so we can become role models to the young,” he says. Ramarou argues that while companies may be looking for skill, that may not be enough as most companies are impressed by one’s character, a person with integrity and who is willing to learn.
