Muzikayise Mashele Mbungela, 35, is an extraordinary multimedia content creator who embraces technology to tell stories. A resident of Ngodini township, outside White River in Mpumalanga, Mbungela founded his company, TheMousist.co.za (pronounced “The Mouse-ist”) in 2012. Back then he mainly freelanced as a graphic designer before venturing into wedding photography and videography. From the start Mbungela relied on the power of the internet to market his business. He learned the trick of effective search engine optimisation so that customers could find him easily online and he studied his clients closely so he could give them the best service. Today, Mbungela produces jaw-dropping content using his smartphone – composing music, live streaming events, creating video tutorials and promotional videos and shooting documentaries. Technology is the bedrock of his work. “Technology is everything; it makes life so much easier. It would be near impossible for one, particularly a youth, to operate a business without embracing technology nowadays.” Mbungela also teaches others the ropes of content creation and running of business so they can start their journeys earlier than he did and avoid the pitfalls he faced starting out.
