Bokang Rapatsa
Nominee's Province:
Limpopo
Age:
32
Project Name/Description:
The combination of Bokang Rapatsa’s drive for education and community development coupled with the need for an after-school programme saw the young lady found Bokang’s Learning Academy in January 2023. According to the young woman from Moletji Makgodu, Polokwane, the number of children who went to school without doing their homework made her realise the need for her academy. At the centre, Rapatsa supports social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development. This reduces risky behaviour, promotes physical health and provides a safe and supportive environment for children. She also assists children with homework, assignments, school projects, reading and writing. A bonus for the founder’s efforts has to be the centre helping many children stay off the streets. As a qualified caregiver, an award winner and a Funda leader, Rapatsa believes that what is missing in the South African education system is commitment and support for teachers. She concludes, “I’m passionate about education, because it helps one have a better life, it helps one develop critical thinking. It even enables one to have flexible thoughts and ideas.”
