More info:

Teaching at her day job is not all enthusiastic Sebone Thapelo does with her time. The teacher at Toronto Primary School in Polokwane, Limpopo, who teaches mathematics, coding, and robotics, is also the founder of Basal Academy, where she teaches students the fundamentals of mathematics. Her academy’s objective is to teach students, teachers, the school governing bodies and the community that accomplishing big dreams is only feasible if you put in more effort and are enthusiastic about your work. Thapelo is also an ICT educator and chairperson at the school, as well as an ICT coordinator in and around Mankweng where she educates and shares digital skills with other teachers on how to use ICT in their daily teaching and learning. In 2019, the ITC enthusiast trained Grade 7 learners and teachers in ICT integration. The fruit of her labour was eight learners coming first and one second in a digital usage competition. The 31-year-old teacher was named an ICT champion by the district and received funds to attend a short course in Integrating ICT at Wits University. The South African Democratic Teachers Union also recognised Thapelo for having the capacity and expertise to educate other teachers unplugged and plugged coding and robotics.
