Shadrack Mlambo believes that tertiary education provides everyone with the opportunity to shape and map their future. It is for this reason that the 30-year-old started Project-20thirty in 2018, to assist learners from Burgersfort in Limpopo with their university applications. To ensure that communities are uplifted and development is driven through higher education, Project-20thirty further provides learners with mentors and tutorials in mathematics, physical science and accounting. The organisation is also able to provide prospective students with data to attend online tutorials and their application fees are also paid in full. “Our organisation started with a pilot project with only five learners. Since the project started, we have maintained 100% bachelor pass rate for our matric learners. We further have 18 tertiary students across 12 South African universities. My proudest moment was when school principals from the areas we work in reached out to us to go and work with their schools,” he bursts with pride. To him, being an Unsung Hero means that the great work that he does in his community is valid and is considered as very important. It will also keep him motivated.
