Being a mouthpiece for creatives is what the creator of Itheku Connect, Zama Khumalo, is passionate about. Khumalo, an online media specialist who specialises in digital marketing, created this platform to showcase what creatives had to offer to the industry and also document the history they were creating for future generations. She mentions that she enjoys reading the stories of the various creatives she has profiled, “The journey I am on is not a small feat. My existence is of value and a part of something great.” The media specialist hopes to create more platforms to document the stories of other unsung heroes. “We often don’t realise the rich and authentic history we have in this country, especially in creativity. We tend to look outside our borders, but forget how powerful and majestic we are,” she states. She believes that “Unsung Hero” is the perfect title for the work she does. “This is because most of the time, the work I do doesn’t mean much to many and that is okay, but those who follow me, know the value I add. Lastly, both of my parents died within a space of two years, this recognition is a great honour to both of them – I’m their Unsung Hero.” Khumalo’s achievements include being nominated for the Gagasi Shero 2021, Hustler of the Year 031, Women in Marketing as well as the Afroblogger Awards.
