Before this position, he was a senior officer responsible for student life and a student governance manager.  In 2022, Moema was recognised in the sector when he received the People's Choice Award: Most Passionate Student Affairs Professional at the South African Senior Student Affairs Practitioners Awards. A former SRC president at the University of the Free State (Qwaqwa campus), he has also served as an executive of the National Association of Student Development Practitioners.  Academically, Moema obtained an undergraduate degree in social sciences, followed by a postgraduate diploma in governance and politics as well as a postgraduate certificate in engaged leadership. Since the advent of democracy, the higher education sector, according to Moema, has played a transformative role by promoting equity, diversity and academic excellence.  "The higher education sector in South Africa has experienced significant changes and challenges over the past 30 years of democracy. While there have been notable achievements such as increased access to education for previously disadvantaged groups and the expansion of institutions, there remain persistent issues such as funding constraints, unequal access to quality education, and disparities in educational outcomes," he states.
