As the visionary behind The Cyberculture Foundation, Prof Gcaza, is committed to promoting digital wellness and responsible internet use among South Africa’s youth. A devoted family woman, Prof Gcaza’s dedication to safe digital practices is also influenced by the digital environment she envisions for her children and the next generation. The Cyberculture Foundation focuses on educating children and young people about internet safety. One of its key initiatives is the anti-cyberbullying roadshow, which has reached over 4 000 learners across South Africa. Led by Prof Gcaza, the foundation’s volunteers travel to schools and community centres, delivering interactive sessions that educate students about the dangers of cyberbullying. According to Prof Gcaza, scientific research and innovation have been pivotal in South Africa’s development over the past three decades. “Programmes that teach coding and STEM skills have given young people the knowledge they need for the future. We are working hard to ensure that as we adopt these new technologies, we are also prepared to protect our digital infrastructure from cyber threats.”
