Owned by this enterprising woman, Keketso Mokhothu , the company is in the business of producing an organic product which she describes as “good for your health”. The products that go into producing the Mtswako booster include ginger, honey, lemon, turmeric and garlic. “What is pleasing is that the product she produces does not contain any colourant and, has no chemical preservatives, but is high in vitamin C,” she said proudly. She says the product was established during the Covid-19 pandemic to offer consumers an alternative and cheaper vitamin C source to strengthen their body against Covid-19 infections,” she said. Mokhothu says the initial plan was to make this product solely for her family needs, “but the outbreak of the pandemic increased the demand for the product”. “The intention really was to make this product to protect my parents from the devastation of Covid-19, but soon the word and demand spread in my area. Because of this, I was inundated with demands from people who wanted the product. This is what gave rise to my company,” she said. “To improve my knowledge, I attended numerous entrepreneurial course that were facilitated by various institutions. The programmes have assisted me on acquiring the skills to manage my business, especially in food safety management,” she said. Presently, Mokhothu is not employing outsiders. She depends on family members to help her produce the product, but in future she hopes to create employment opportunity for the members of the community, especially women.
