Putumani Nana Skenjana, 34, was born in Tsolo, but grew up in Norwood, Mthatha, and Queenstown, Eastern Cape. Skenjana established Globetrotters Travel Agency in 2014, aged 26, to supplement her income. In reality, the launch of the entity stemmed from her passion to travel and her love for business. She then relocated from Cape Town back to the Eastern Cape where she worked full-time on the business. Based in the Joe Gqabi Municipality, in Nqanqarhu, formely Maclear, Eastern Cape, the business specialises in travel management on behalf of clients, including travel booking for both local and international travellers, for leisure and corporate travel. Bookings include flights, bus, car hire, arranging for accommodation, tourism experience, conferencing and events management. Her business also runs a call centre to help tourism businesses grow their online presence. “My passion for tourism has made me to ensure I awaken the sleeping giant of this industry in our province, to end poverty, mental health issues and crime in our communities.” Skenjana has an N6 Business Management course from Ikhala TVET College and a Small Business Enterprise Development from Stellenbosch University. As it is, she’s pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with Unisa. Skenjana is the Joe Gqabi chairperson for the Women in Tourism in the Eastern Cape. She also has a d i s a b i l i t y following a car accident.
