Andiswa Bata, born outside King William’s Town in a township called Zwelitsha, is a highly respected business executive with extensive experience in the banking sector. After joining First National Bank (FNB) in 2018, she held various roles, leading up to her current role as CEO of FNB Business. Bata holds an Honours degree in Business Science from the prestigious University of Cape Town and is also an Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow.

Before her tenure at FNB, Bata amassed 13 years of Pan-African investment banking experience, having worked at both Absa and Standard Bank. While at Absa’s corporate and investment bank, she held various significant roles, including those in strategy and planning, loan structuring and execution, loan syndication, and distribution. She also served as the head of client coverage for the construction and cement sectors and co-chaired the institution’s Banking on Women Initiative.

At Standard Bank, Bata was the Head of Structured Sales for institutional clients, and prior to that, she led the Africa loan syndications business. Her experience also includes a background in management and strategy consulting, further solidifying her expertise in the financial industry.
